This is a blog about rationing teacher workload. Teachers in the UK are reported to work 60-70 hours a week, stress-related illness is at an all time high and higher numbers than ever are leaving the profession, many within two years of qualifying.
A survey carried out by the Guardian in March 2016 found that 43% of teachers in England plan to leave; 98% are under increasing pressure; 82% say their workload is unmanageable
However, no head teacher or head of department has ever told me that I should put in all these hours so I have decided to find out why I have been doing it and whether there is a better way.
I intend to post a weekly blog about my endeavours and hope that, in doing so, I will help other teachers claim their lives back.
